Books vs. Television
Have you ever thought about reading a book when you go home and then end up in front of the TV instead? You are not alone. By watching the TV, we get to be all passive, lying down on the couch, just taking in everything we see. By reading a book on the other hand, we need to activate ourselves, we need to flip the pages with our hands and we need to concentrate our minds to really get the plot of the book.
Can You Read Too Much?
Some students prefer to watch TV before going to sleep instead of reading a book, because they feel that they’re already reading a lot, referring to the crucial course literature. But actually, it would be a good idea to turn off all your digital devices two, or at least one hour, before going to bed. It helps the mind relax and feel in control. However, if you download a book or a magazine or read them online on a digital device, it’s still relaxing, as long as you don’t get distracted by other features such as notifications from other apps or messaging back and forth with friends at the same time.
Please take a moment for yourself to read a book or browse through a magazine, at least a few times a week, and watch yourself become a more down to earth person, who doesn’t need social media to be in your life 24/7.
