I want to use fashion as a platform for awareness. It’s just not about clothes, it can be a tool to express so much more

The Story Behind Verandah
From Lakmé Fashion Week in Spring 2015, to Miami Swim Week. Anjali Patel Mehta decided to try her luck on a global level with her brand Verandah. And luckily for us, she got discovered by a buyer from Moda Operandi and was soon able to ship worldwide.
Mehta was unexpectedly working as an investment banker before she decided to take a more creative path in life. She started selling her creations from home and her biggest target group was “fellow ‘south Bombay mommies’”. She was then supposed to go back to working at the bank, but she never did.
So Much More than Clothes and Outlooks
Mehta explains that she uses fashion as a way to bring all of her interests together. She is passionate about art, architecture, history and even golf, and all of those elements are sources of inspiration to her collections.
Sustainability is also at her company’s core and Mehta believes that it must imbue everything she does; from the wages of the workers, to upcycled materials and a no-waste policy. She is also donating ten percent from the proceeds of her Spring Collection 2018 to the NGO Tiger Watch.
