In Sweden, the 13th of December is a very special day. It’s about celebrating Christmas and honoring the Saint Lucia, who brings light in the dark winter. According to Swedish tradition, Lucia is celebrated by singing songs and dressing up in white.

You might think that it is all about creating a cozy feeling the days before Christmas, but did you know that according to the legend, the red band on her waist symbolizes her blood? Lucia is actually known to be a marture. She was supposed to marry a man but when she didn’t want to do that, she decided to give money to the poor, instead of giving them to her future husband. The man she was supposed to marry got very upset over this and stroke a sword into her waist.

Quite brutal, but also interesting facts…
