Women’s fashion has always changed along with people’s behaviour in society. When women started to become more active in sports, it was not practical or logical to maintain dress codes such as long dresses and skirts. Women started wearing pants and many people, mostly men, opposed it.
Why did they oppose the changes in clothing? One aspect of it is because pants had been seen as a masculine garment and they took away the femininity of the women. Another aspect, probably the most important one, was that these changes allowed for women to gain access to, and share the same interests as men, such as with the sporting and leisure activities. Before women could vote, they could sail, ride a bike and much more so. Think of that if you feel that things seem impossible sometimes. If the Eduardian women could do it, so can you!
